Philly Jr. PGA - Fitness Friday: The Bear Plank

I’ve never come across a Junior Golfer that couldn’t benefit from more core strength! 

More times than not, Juniors lack the strength necessary to bottle up all of the energy and force they create in the swing. By improving core strength, Juniors become more stable, and transform into more consistent and powerful ball strikers.

More importantly, lower back pain and tightness with Juniors are generally due to weak core musculature. Strengthening is absolutely critical for preventing back and spine injuries.  

With that being said, here is one of my favorite core exercises for Junior Golfers, the Bear Plank:

If you try these exercises and you find them to be too challenging or uncomfortable, do not continue, until you have consulted with your physician. All exercises for golf should be customized to your needs after a proper evaluation.
