Do you feel stiff or restricted in your swing? Losing rotation and power? If so, your body may not move as efficiently as it should. Many golfers try to fix these issues by stretching isolated muscles- like the hamstrings or shoulders- but golf is a full-body movement, not a collection of independent parts.
That’s where fascial line stretching comes in.
In the video below, I’ll walk you through two of the most effective stretches for improving your rotation, flexibility, and mobility for a smoother, more powerful swing. But before you follow along, let’s explore why fascial tissue is critical for golf performance and how these stretches can help you move better.
Why is fascial stretching essential for your golf swing?
Your body isn’t just a collection of isolated muscles- it’s a connected system linked by fascial tissue. Fascia is a web-like structure that surrounds and integrates your muscles, joints, and bones, allowing them to work together.
A powerful, consistent golf swing relies on seamless energy transfer from the ground up through the legs, core, and shoulders. But when fascia becomes tight or restricted, it can:
- Limit rotation in the backswing and follow-through
- Reduce flexibility in the hips, spine, and shoulders
- Decrease power due to inefficient movement patterns
- Increase injury risk from compensation and strain
That’s where fascial line stretching comes in. Unlike traditional static stretching, which target individual muscles, fascial line stretching focuses on entire movement patterns, ensuring all the connected tissues work together for better rotation, stability, and power. For golfers, two key fascial lines play a significant role.
That’s where fascial line stretching comes in. Unlike traditional static stretching, which target individual muscles, fascial line stretching focuses on entire movement patterns, ensuring all the connected tissues work together for better rotation, stability, and power. For golfers, two key fascial lines play a significant role.
The Anterior Fascial Line (Front of the Body)
The Anterior Fascial Line helps maintain posture and extension throughout the swing. If restricted, it can lead to early extension and hip tightness.
The Posterior Fascial Line (Back of the Body)
The Posterior Fascial Line supports rotation, stability, and energy transfer. Tightness here can limit shoulder turn and reduce swing power.
By improving mobility across these fascial lines, you’ll see direct benefits in your game, including:
- Better shoulder and spinal rotation for a fuller backswing
- Improved hip mobility for better weight transfer and stability
- More efficient power generation from the ground up
- Reduced stiffness and injury risk so you can play pain-free
The Bretzel Stretch and 90/90 Oblique Stretch- which I demonstrate in the video- are two of the best ways to unlock your rotation, improve flexibility, and move more efficiently in your swing.
The Posterior Fascial Line (Back of the Body)
Now that you know why fascial stretching matters, let’s implement it. Watch the video below and follow along with these two stretches to improve your mobility and unlock better rotation in just 10 minutes.
These are the same stretches we use with golfers at FitGolf Performance Centers to help them move better, feel looser, and play their best golf.
