At FitGolf Performance Centers®, we believe that a complete evaluation is the key to planning the perfect training program. The Golf Performance Evaluation is an important first step in the process because it gives us the information we need to better understand your body, the way it moves, and how it affects your golf swing. Using this information, we are then able to create a training program that is tailored specifically to your body, your golf swing, and your goals.
Components of the Golf Performance Evaluation
Step 1. History and Goals
To understand your current situation with your body as it relates to your golf game, we need to understand where you have been and what you have done as a golfer. We also need to understand your medical history, injury history, and life situation. Once we have an understanding of your history, we can begin the process of goal setting. We will guide you through this process using a series of questions designed to help you think through and communicate the changes you are hoping to see and experience in your body and your golf swing.
Understanding both your physical and golf goals helps us plan your program. Smaller goals will take less time and effort to achieve, while larger and more aggressive goals will take more work and dedication to the process. No matter where you fall on the spectrum, we are excited to help you achieve the changes and improvements you are hoping to feel in the way your body moves and see in your golf.
Step 2. Functional Movement Testing
The next step in the evaluation process is to test your functional movement. Functional movements tie directly into your golf swing. A few examples of these tests are the toe touch, deep squat, and pelvic separation and rotation. Each of these tests help us understand different details of your golf motion. For example, we know that if you cannot touch your toes, you are very likely to stand up and experience large posture changes in your golf swing. This could be the physical reason behind your consistency problem. This kind of information is important when it comes to crafting a training program that will address and target the specific challenges your body is facing.
Step 3. Anatomical Testing
After the previous set of movement testing, we want to find out why certain elements of the functional movement tests were challenging for you. We look for mobility and stability problems, range of motion limitations, imbalances in muscle and frame, and postural imbalances that are making the functional movement tests a challenge. If we are able to understand you anatomically, we can help you improve your function and golf. As you improve anatomically and functionally, your golf also improves and your body feels better.
Step 4. BodiTrak Weight Shift and Analysis System
Once we understand you functionally and anatomically, we then move towards better understanding your golf motion. During this step in the process, we will test you on the BodiTrak System. On this system, we look at your balance at set up, as well as and how your weight shifts as your swing progresses. There are known patterns of movement that are unique to the different swing models or styles. For example, if you are working with a teacher of the modern swing, we know what that weight shift should look like; if you are a student of the stack and tilt, we know what that should look like; etc.
There are also relationships between your functional movements and anatomical testing and the BodiTrak results show us what these are, which is helpful in creating a program to address all of these things.
Step 5. K-Vest 3D Motion Analysis
Finally, we test your body motion in golf with a 3D Motion Analysis, the MRI of the golf swing motion. This system, through the use of wireless sensors and a computer, tells us details about your golf swing motion that cannot be seen on video or by the naked eye. We are able to measure changes in your spine and pelvic posture at all points in the swing. We can look at the amount of rotation you make in different body areas, your sequence of motion (kinetic sequence), and other data.
From this data, we can tell you how the functional and anatomical findings are influencing your golf swing motion and help you change this data by improving the functional test results.
Step 6. Custom Designed Golf Fitness Program
Once we have all of the necessary data collected, we will design a custom program for you that corrects the functional and anatomical challenges you face so that you can feel better and play better golf. This program could be a Master’s Program, B3 Program, Small or Large Group Training, an online program, or an individualized program, depending on what you want to get out of your program.
No matter what goals you have, we have the training program solution for you and are excited to help you begin your journey to better, more comfortable body movement and better golf!
